07.08.2010 1st Annual Eddie Lindberg Memorial Dart Tournament
Tim Noel and Katie Facteau are among the people organizing the 1st Annual Eddie Lindberg Memorial Dart Tournament on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at 6 p.m. at Creegan's Pub, 65 Green St., Worcester. Mr. Lindberg was an Iraq War veteran. He was killed in a hit and run accident last week. The entrance fee will be $10 to be donated to his family. It will be a Luck of the Draw. The format will depend on the number of teams

Election Bio Paul O'Connell for President

Here is my pitch: I have been involved with the Worcester Dart League since its inception. I've seen this league evolve from an idea into a four team league, there were 27 teams within two years and eventually as many as 126 teams. During this time I have worked as Greivance Chair under three Presidents, Secretary on three different occaisions, Rules Committee Chairman, Treasurer for a short time, and as President for the last four years. I've seen the ups and downs, I've learned from some great Presidents and think I can understand the mistakes of the not-so-great.
When I became President the WDL was down to 50 teams, awards were handed out in the form of vouchers with expiration dates, there was not very much promotion going on, and the administration was top heavy. Now there is growth, this past season we welcomed 69 teams.
Also, with the help of the rest of the E-Board we were able to reinstute the Awards Banquet, which will run for the second year in a row on June 6, hopefully bigger and better than last year. Also with the cooperation of the E-Board we eliminated stipends to the E-Board and made the Secretary's pay contingent upon the number of teams. All steps towards making this a player's league.
Although we no longer run the three-player tournaments, we've instituted two highly successful season openers. The league has added more prize money and as a result we have witnessed increased participation in the singles, doubles, and season finale.
And how about the website? After seeing some of Jerry Buote's handiwork last season, we enlisted him to update our website. Things that were only dreamed of five years ago are now possible, and there is still room for us to utilize more of the marketing capabilities of the website and Facebook.
All in all, I believe the league has made progress in my tenure. I hope you do too and I hope that you will cast your vote for me to continue as your President these next two years.
I'll close with one word that I think describes the most important aspect of the Worcester Dart League when Paul O'Connell is President. ACCESSIBILITY. I will not shy away from criticism and I will never stop listening to your ideas. Thank you.

In the last several seasons I have learned a great deal about how the league functions and how I could best serve you, my fellow players, as your Agent of Change.In the last few seasons I have worked hard behind the scenes to improve the opportunities for the entire League to communicate and be heard!
Some of those efforts include:
We have debuted and are now benefiting from the use of the League Republic Stat system; all players can now see how they are shooting week to week.
We have an organized website with timely coherent updates including Sponsor Pages, Links and Photo Galleries of our LODs, and events, not to mention the posting of Non-League sanctioned events.
We have a Facebook Page, complete with Discussion Pages and Photo Galleries. Any member is welcome to express their opinions and suggestions there.
A form for Jackets and Awards has been created and will be included in each Captains Kit Packet each season to speed up and clarify the end of Season awards process.
I put forward the motion for the Board Certification Team, which thankfully, all present at the last General Meeting felt was a good thing to do.
I feel I can be effective and work with each of you the players, the Sponsors, the other dart organizations and Corporate Sponsors in a highly professional and effect manner.
One of the things I would like to see happen right away is the adoption of more frequent General Meetings. Also I will pursue the E-board to meet on a monthly basis to review the state and issues at hand.
On my watch you can be sure any issues regarding the WDL will be handled in a professional and timely manner. If you ask a question I cant immediately answer I will let you know that, and seek the advice of the rules, and the other E-board members before advising you further.
I am grateful for the response from many regarding my dual nominations and I assure you this is the correct role for me to tackle at this time, both personally and for the betterment of the League.
